Upload TXT, DOCX, XLSX, PDF, HTML, Image – Download as TXT or PDF
The Advanced Word Counter on AD Tools is a powerful, browser-based utility that helps you analyze text content with comprehensive statistics. Whether you're writing essays, blog posts, articles, or social media content, our tool provides instant insights into your text — including word count, character count (with and without spaces), sentence count, paragraph count, reading time, speaking time, and letter count.
What makes our Word Counter special is its advanced file upload support. You can upload documents in multiple formats — TXT, DOCX, XLSX, PDF, HTML — and even images (PNG, JPG, JPEG) with automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract text. The tool uses industry-standard libraries like Mammoth.js for Word documents, SheetJS for Excel, PDF.js for PDFs, and Tesseract.js for offline OCR, ensuring accurate text extraction from any source.
All processing happens 100% locally on your device — your documents are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy and security. The Word Counter is completely free, with no character limits, no sign-ups, and no watermarks. Just upload or paste your text, get instant statistics, and download the results as TXT or PDF — it's that simple.

The Word Counter supports multiple file formats:
Our OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is highly accurate for clear, high-contrast images. The tool uses a two-tier approach:
For best results, use clear images with good lighting and high contrast. Blurry, low-resolution, or heavily skewed images may have lower accuracy.
There's no strict file size limit since all processing happens locally on your device. However, very large files (over 50MB) may take longer to process and require more RAM. For PDFs, the tool processes up to 10 pages at once for optimal performance. For longer documents, consider splitting them into smaller files.
No, never. All text extraction and processing happens 100% locally on your device using modern browser technologies. Your files are never uploaded to our servers or any third party. The only exception is image OCR, which uses the OCR.space API for initial processing, but falls back to offline Tesseract.js if needed. Your privacy is 100% guaranteed.
Reading time is calculated based on the average adult reading speed of 200 words per minute. For example, a 1000-word article would have an estimated reading time of 5 minutes. This is a standard metric used by blogs and publications to help readers estimate how long it will take to read content.
Speaking time is calculated based on the average speaking speed of 130 words per minute, which is the typical pace for clear, understandable speech. This is useful for:
Yes! The Word Counter is fully responsive and works seamlessly on smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. The interface automatically adapts to your screen size. For large file processing or OCR, a desktop or laptop is recommended for faster performance.
No account, sign-up, or email registration is required. Just open the Word Counter and start using it immediately. No personal information is collected, and no data is stored. It's completely anonymous and hassle-free.
Characters (with spaces): Counts every character in your text, including letters, numbers, punctuation, and spaces. This is the total character count.
Characters (no spaces): Counts only letters, numbers, and punctuation — excluding all space characters. This is useful for platforms with character limits that don't count spaces (like some social media platforms).
Currently, the download options (TXT and PDF) save only the text content, not the statistics. However, you can easily copy the statistics by taking a screenshot or manually noting them down. We're considering adding a comprehensive report download feature in a future update.
